NEUROTRANSMITTERS

Here are a series of exercises to test your knowledge on neurotransmitters. Before attempting these exercises you should be familiar with the physiology of neurotransmission. An introduction to this topic can be found here: “Introduction to neurotransmission“.

INTRODUCTION

FIND THE DRUG TARGETS

Although every neurotransmitter is different, the steps involved in the neurotransmitter’s “lifecycles” are similar. Understanding these steps is key to understanding both neurophysiology and neuropharmacology.

Find all the potential drug targets on the image below. Each time you find a target, a description will appear at the bottom of the illustration.

TYPICAL SYNAPSES

Here are a series of “typical synapses” for each of the main neurotransmitters. Below each illustration is a fill-in-the-blanks exercise to test your knowledge of the key players for each synapse.

Use the arrows to navigate to navigate between each neurotransmitter. You can enalarge each image by clicking on the “+” symbol.
